Women, This Massage Is For You!

Fertility Massage Therapy Is Not Just For Those TTC
Along with the benefits to those trying to conceive (TTC), this type massage may help you with many of the ‘women problems’ that we encounter. By the title, people with pass on this type of massage because they are lead to believe that it is only for making babies, but it can encourage greater wellness for all women.

That being said, Fertility Massage is beneficial to those who want to have a baby. Many couples experience difficulties TTC. There are many options to ‘boost’ your chances of conceiving, some more natural and far less invasive than others. Fertility Massage is another option.
A Little About It ...
Fertility Massage Therapy involves a number of modalities, including Castor Oil Therapy, Aromatherapy, Deep Tissue, MyoFascial Techniques, Reflexology & Acupressure, and relaxation techniques, and more.  The pelvic and abdominal techniques, combined with a relaxing Therapeutic Massage, potentially can enhance a couples potential to conceive naturally.  These techniques can also be combined with assisted reproductive technology, such as IVF.

The intention of a therapeutic fertility massage session is to support the body in cleansing, reducing stress, balancing reproductive hormones and stimulating the reproductive organs. The session is also designed to support the client to achieve a state of balance emotionally and hormonally. Essential oils are added to the massage to awaken the reproductive system. Castor oil packs are applied to the abdomen during the session to cleanse the body. The result of this technique may increase the chances of achieving conception.

Fertility Massage may only be done after a menstrual period through day of ovulation. A Fertility Massage session begins with a castor oil pack applied to the pelvic area. Relaxation techniques are done, followed by abdominal massage, and then the session will be finished up with Reflexology on corresponding points and nerves strokes to encourage further relaxation and connection.

Regular Fertility Massage provides many benefits for the reproductive system. Some of these include are:

  •           Helps to reposition the uterus to its normal position and shape if it has become tilted or compressed by a fecal impacted intestine
  •          Promotes hormonal balance

ACHOO! I Need A Massage.

Massage, Allergies, and Congestion

Yay! Spring has finally arrived! Well, for many of us it has ... Some are still enduring a long, rough winter. Hopefully you too will join us in Spring soon. Along with the warmer weather, yard work, beautiful flowers, and other joys of the season comes allergies for many.

Can Massage Therapy help with my sinus congestion or allergies? ABSOLUTELY!

Some of the benefits of massage are the reduction of stress, opening of sinuses by reducing neck and shoulder tension, decreasing the agitation and inflammation through increasing lymphatic circulation, and by promoting a healthier, stronger immune system.
Next time you sneeze, sniffle, or blow your nose, pay attention to which muscles tense up. Primarily, it will be the muscles of your neck and shoulders. This is a double-whammy! Not only does the tension caused in these muscles make you feel worse, and possibly causing a headache, but they also can clamp down on the sinus tubes, causing more inflammation and irritability. By massaging these muscles they will become more relaxed, providing you with more comfort. And they will also release the pressure on the tubes, allowing for more flow.

Another benefit of massage that can be beneficial is the increased circulation and lymphatic system which will release toxins, flushing them from your body, and potentially increasing your immune system, thus protecting you from allergic reactions.
Along with massage, there are also a handful of essential oils that are great for sinus congestion and allergies. Many Massage Therapists have been educated in the use of essential oils and/or hold certification in Aromatherapy. Some of the essential oils that may be beneficial include: Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Oregano, Melaleuca, Breathe blend, and On Guard blend. (For more about chosing essential oils, read ‘DoesEssential Oil Purity Really Matter’)

I Should Get A Massage Doula!

The Massage Doula

First, you are probably asking, “what the heck is a doula?”. And second question up is, “what the heck does massage therapy have to do with that?”. Hopefully I will be able to answer both of those questions and explain to you what a Massage Doula is.

By Definition-
My doula, Jessica, massaging and utilizing
acupressure during contractions.
Doula: The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.
Massage doula: A licensed or certified massage therapist who is also certified as a labor doula. She (or he) can perform massage therapy during the pregnancy, provide doula support during childbirth, and perform postpartum massage after the baby is born. She (or he) is often also a certified infant massage therapist/instructor and can teach new parents how to massage their babies.

More About A Massage Doula and What Can They Do For Me?
A doula is someone trained to assist a pregnant woman through the various states of childbirth by providing comfort, physical support, encouragement and emotional sustenance. In order to be termed a massage doula, a practitioner must be certified to practice general massage and must have also completed additional training in prenatal and postpartum massage, as well as labor and delivery doula practices. Specific requirements vary by state, but many programs are available throughout the country, both live and online, for becoming trained in doula massage.

Although the practice of women assisting each other in labor is surely as old as humankind, the term "doula" has been in common usage only in recent times. In most countries, doulas are not required to be certified for their profession, although those who are designated massage doulas must be certified as massage therapists. Research, as well as anecdotal evidence, suggests that women who employ the services of massage doulas for prenatal or postpartum massage are more relaxed during labor and have an easier time adjusting to the changes of their postpartum bodies Doulas can assist births at home, birthing centers and most hospitals. Massage doulas might perform prenatal massages on their patients anywhere from the early or middle months of pregnancy right up through labor and delivery. Postpartum massage can take place very soon after labor or in the hours or days that follow the baby's birth. Both prenatal and postpartum massage can be beneficial for stress reduction, relaxation and mental tranquility in an expectant or new mother.

To summarize what a Certified Massage Doula can do for you:
·         Shorten length of labor
·         Reduce need for pain medications or epidurals Reduce the need for pitocin
·         Reduce the need for forceps & vacuum extraction
·         Reduce the need for C-sections
·         Dramatically increase your odds of a natural labor
·         Increase chance of successful breastfeeding
·         Most importantly improve the wellness of yourself and baby!

Are Essential Oils Safe For Childbirth?

Essential Oils and Childbirth ... Is it safe???

Random pic fact: This is my first pregnancy belly. :-)
Yes! A million times, yes! What essential oils (EO’s) and how to use them can be controversial, as with any natural, holistic, or homeopathic remedy/aid. As with any EO’s, do your homework, use what you know works for you, and use pure EO’s (see “Does Essential Oil Purity Really Matter” for information about this). Whether you chose to have a holistic birth, an natural birth, a fully medicated hospital birth, or whatever birth works best for you, there is a use for EO’s and your birth. They can aid in relieving anxiety to easing some pains and stressors.

Some childbirth concerns and EO’s that may help include:
(*Indicates doTERRA blend)

Labor & Birth
**Note: some mommies may be scent sensitive during labor. Dilute if necessary.

Grounding Mom: Balance* – apply 2-3 drops to the bottom of each of mom’s feet (My fave!)
For the room: Serenity*, Citrus Bliss* – diffuse
Diffusing EO's during labor can help relax Mama
as well as ease the mood of everyone else

Anxiety: Lavender, Wild Orange, Serenity*
Back labor: Black Pepper, Peppermint, Deep Blue*

Labor pains: Basil, Black Pepper, Lavender, Clary Sage, Whisper*, Ylang Ylang,
Perineum massage/avoid or minimize tearing: Helichrysum  – 10 drops EO and 1TBSP of carrier oil (sweet almond oil is a good choice). Massage perineum with oil. **Continue massage with this on baby’s head as they are crowning to reduce bruising.

Irregular or to increase effectiveness of contractions: Clary Sage, Solace* (now called Clary Calm) – apply neat to uterine reflex point (soft spot below medial side of ankle) with firm pressure in a circular motion.

Energy boost: Peppermint
Baby

Frankincense is a must! This super oil is amazing
and gentle enough for the newest of babies!
Premature: It is best to avoid use of EO’s on a premature baby’s skin because they are so sensitive.
Jaundice: Geranium and Lemon – Dilute 1drop of each in equal parts carrier oil (Fractionated Coconut Oil is a good choice). Apply to the bottoms of baby’s feet and cover with socks or booties.

Anointing: Frankincense – apply to crown and along spine
Umbilical cord: Frankincense, Myrrh – 1drop Myrrh on and around stump. Continue with Frankincense until stump falls off.

Circumcision healing: Frankincense and Lavender – Equal parts EO, dilute in fractionated coconut oil. Apply directly to area. (Ah ... circumcision ... another controversial topic. There's a lot of those, huh? Although I am not pro-circ, it is your child to make your own educated decisions for. Thus the reason I share this info, so that if you chose circumcise, you still have a natural option to ease his discomfort and aid in healing.)
Post-Partum

First seconds post-partum with my son.
Pure Mommy bliss! <3
Click here to read my birth story.
Bleeding: Clary Sage, Helichrysum, and Ylang Ylang – blend equal parts and apply to uterine reflex point (soft spot below medial side of ankles) to firm things back up
Vaginal & perineal pain/discomfort: Frankincense and Lavender – blend 15drops of each EO with fractionated coconut oil in 15mL glass bottle with finger pump sprayer. Spray/apply 3-4x/day.

Hemorrhoids: Cypress, Geranium, Clary Sage, Helichrysum – combine 2drops of each and witch hazel in glass bottle with finger pump sprayer. Apply each time you use the restroom.
Perineal healing: Cypress and Lavender – combine 2 drops of each with ½ tsp of Epsom salts. Add to warm sitz bath and soak 10-15min. Use 3x/day. (You could make up Cypress-Lavender bath salts in advance and just put a sprinkle in your sitz bath for ease and convenience)

Pain/cramping: Solace* (now called Clary Calm) – Applied/massaged over lower abdomen.
Depression: Lavender, Wild Orange, Bergamot, Geranium, Frankincense, Balance*, Serenity*, Citrus Bliss*, Elevation*, Solace*(now called Clary Calm)

No-Bake Chia Treats

No-Bake Chia Treats

I don’t plan to share many food type recipes, as there are a million bloggers who do so. However, I am sharing these treats because my family loves them and I thought you might too …

It’s been so nice to get back in the kitchen again and make healthy meals and treats for my family since giving birth to my handsome wee-man, Connor (To read my birth story, see "Holistic Homebirth For Me!"). Few of you may know this about me, and many are about to find out … I’m not much of a baker. I can do it; I can follow recipes and the stuff turns out good, but it’s not my thing. I prefer cooking and making no-bake treats. As I was making some of our favorites today, I decided that I would share with you!
The treats I’m making today include Chia seeds. Before I proceed, let’s make one thing clear: I do NOT consume or suggest consuming Chia seeds for the purpose of minimizing healthful food intake or meal replacement! One of these treats are just as they suggest, a treat or snack, NOT A MEAL! You need to eat a healthy, colorful, variety of foods and nutrients. The reason I like Chia seeds in these treats are because they do make the snacks more filling so you don’t eat a tub of ice cream afterward… or a whole batch of these in one sitting, because, well, they’re delicious. You’ll be tempted. J
If you have heard of Chia seeds, or if you haven’t, but you don’t quite know the benefits, here are some:

·         Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids

·         High in fiber

·         Contains antioxidants

·         Rich in minerals – calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and manganese

·         Satiety; decreases cravings and hunger between meals

·         Gluten-free, for those who are GF

·         Can be digested whole; doesn’t need to be ground like some seeds (ie. flax)

·         Can help maintain hydration (“chia gel”)

·         Some studies have shown links between Chia and improved blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure

The treats. They don’t contain tons of Chia; it’s not even the main ingredient. But it’s one of the three things they have in common. The others being that they’re quick and they’re our favorites!

Better Than LaraBars
Ingredients:

×          1c pitted medjool dates
×          1c raw almonds or cashews
×          1/4c chia seeds
×          1tsp pink Himalayan sea salt
×          2TBSP virgin coconut oil (lets be honest …I don’t actually measure this; 2 beautiful heaping spoons full is more accurate)
×          ½ - 1c of whatever you want (Any dried fruit, coconut, mini chocolate chips, etc. Some of our faves: 3/4c unsweetened coconut flakes = coconut cream pie; 1/2c mini chocolate chips = chocolate chip cookie dough;1/2c unsweetened coconut flakes + 1/4c mini chocolate chips = almond joy; 1/2c dried cherries + 1-2tsp vanilla (I just pour what looks right) = cherry cheesecake; banana chips = banana bread.) Play with this some; mix it up. Make it fun!

Coconut Cream Pie
I know, horrible pic. I'm a Massage Therapist, not a photographer!
Put your pitted dates in the food processor (be sure to pit them, I didn’t the first time … lesson learned). Pulse until you have formed a paste (only about a min or so, depends on the quality of your food processor. Mine is a dinosaur so it takes a little longer). Remove your paste and dump your almonds or cashews (or a combo of the two) in. Pulse until you have bitty nut pieces. Add date paste back in.
The hard part is done. Dump in your Chia, salt, and coconut oil. Process until it’s all mixed together evenly … or close to it. Add in your “whatever you want” and mix. Dump your mixture into a 9x13 pan lined with parchment paper. Press down with wetted hands or a spatula. Be sure to pack them down tight, otherwise they may fall apart when you cut them. Make sure you save a small pile of the mixture to sample. It’s yummy! Plus, you’re the chef, you get to sample. J
Pop them in the fridge for 2+ hours to set. After they’ve set, cut them into whatever size bars you want (we get 18 but you could get 24 if you want them a little smaller). I wish I could tell you how long they last or are good for, but ours never last that long. If yours make it long enough to go bad, please share, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Next up …

Nutritious No-Bake Balls
Ingredients:

×          1c rolled oats
×          1/3c unsweetened coconut flakes
×          1/2c nut butter (we use Organic SunButter)
×          1/4c chia seed
×          1/3c ground flax seed
×          1/3c raw honey (another one of those things I don’t actually measure)
×          1tsp vanilla
×          1/2c mini chocolate chips (we use EnjoyLife brand to avoid allergens) or whatever you want (another one of those fun parts of my recipes. Play with this; nuts, chocolates, dried fruits … make it your own!)

Nutritious No-Bake Balls

Everyone in the mixing bowl! Stir, stir, stir … I find a fork or your hands to be best for this. Once you have mixed it all together evenly, take a bite. Again, you’re the chef, it’s your right! Place the bowl of goodness in the fridge for at least an hour.

Time to make balls! Pull your mixture from the fridge and roll into balls, about 1” is good … unless you like them bigger. They’re your treats, who am I to tell you what size they should be. Enjoy! Just like with the bars, I have no idea what the shelf life for these are. Sorry.

Holistic Homebirth For Me!

A Holistic Homebirth For Me!

I had a baby … at home! Before you assume this is going to be a rant about the greatness of homebirth and a bunch of hospital birth bashing, it is not. I believe that every Mama has the right to make her own educated decision about what is best for her and her family (“because the doctor my insurance company assigned to me said so” is not an educated decision, by the way. If you do your research and decide that hospital birth is right for you, good for you. Research and educate!).

This is about a holistic birth. (For more about Holism or holistic lifestyle, read: “Holistic Health & Wellness: What is Holism and Why Should We Strive for It?”). Even after reading about Holism, you may not understand how it may relate to birthing a child or what specifically entails a “holistic birth”. Just like any other part of a holistic lifestyle, a holistic pregnancy and birth take into consideration ALL aspects of a person (mind, body, soul, etc.). Having a holistic birth does not require you to go 100% natural in your home; in keeping in mind every aspect of the mother and baby, each situation is unique and special. Low intervention and technology when necessary (again, educate yourself so you know what is necessary and what is being offered or made to look important to fill an OB’s wallet) can most certainly be a part of a holistic birth. The idea behind this blog isn’t to go into a ton of information about holism in relation to birth; I simply wanted to summarize and bring the topic to your attention as it relates to the topic at hand.

Getting to it … Many women chose to share their birth story and the miracle of bringing life into this world in which they starred in. That is exactly what I am doing; I intend to share how we came about choosing a homebirth and our story.

A sneak peak at how the story ends
We found out that we were pregnant with Mandeville baby #2 in June of 2013. We already knew that we would not be having another hospital birth. We are happy and grateful for the beautiful, smart, strong-willed, and most importantly, healthy baby girl we had birthed at the hospital. However, we were not happy with some of the things said, or done, or protocols of the hospital … and this wasn’t even one of the big hi-tech hospitals. (Again, do your research, I’m not going to offer up details here.) We wanted to give birth to our second baby in an environment surrounded by people who supported our choice to have a holistic, natural birth.

We knew that we would be PCS’ing soon (Army would be moving us again in the middle of pregnancy). Once we established where we would be, I immediately set out in search of a midwife with the intentions of birthing in a Birth Center. After asking around and a Skype meeting, we had decided on a midwife. I immediately knew she would be the one! She 110% agreed that every woman has the right to their own educated decision and we shared a lot of beliefs about the importance of focusing on more than just getting the baby out and on the beauty of birth; birth should be just that, beautiful.

We had not yet moved, and our midwife was several states away. We had monthly Skype appointments with her to continue to build our relationship and to make sure things were going well. It was the last Skype appointment before our big move that we happened to discuss insurance billing and cost. During this conversation, I discovered that they don’t actually have a Birth Center … they do homebirth! I was shocked for about 5 minutes. Then it was pure excitement! “I could have EXACTLY what I want if it’s in my home; no one can tell me what to do in my home!”, “WooHoo!”, “Get the birthing essential oils ready, honey!” These are the types of thoughts I had at first. The only fear  in me was having to tell my husband this new information and change of plans. I’ve already ruined the suspense of this event because you know I had my baby at home; he took it surprisingly well and over time grew to really like and prefer the idea.

Fast forward to Super Bowl Sunday …

We did some shopping, we ate some really unhealthy food at a diner (my last craving of this pregnancy was malts), took a 2 hour nap (which wasn’t normal, and in hindsight I realize this was my bodies way of resting up for that night), and joined some friends at their home for Mexican food and to watch the Super Bowl. After halftime, it was time to head home and get our toddler, Addison, in bed. We were home for maybe 15 minutes and I was getting Addison into jammies and brushing her teeth when I began to have mild contractions. My contractions started around 9:15pm-ish. I told my husband that while he put her to bed I was going to get a big glass of water and lay down. It was 11 days before my due date, so I thought maybe it was some strong Braxton-Hicks caused by the sodium (dehydration) and unhealthy food we had ate all day. Nothing a little hydration and rest couldn’t calm.

They didn’t stop or become duller. My husband, Justin, came in from putting Addison to bed in hopes of going to bed himself. I informed him I didn’t think that was happening and even “blamed” this on him (I was joking of course, but it is fun to blame stuff on him, Lol). Earlier that day, while we were shopping, he made the request to our unborn baby that he stay in for another week because he had training this coming week that he was really looking forward to attending. I told Justin that in his first act of defiance, our baby decided to come that evening.

I spent the next couple of hours relaxing and texting with my doula, Jessica. During this time, my husband diffused some essential oils (see 'Are Essential Oils Safe for Childbirth' for more about EO's during labor), put others on the soles of my feet, I attempted a warm bath and found it uncomfortable, and I even poured a glass of red wine. Unfortunately, it was dumped because after two sips, I decided I needed something more hydrating and wine wasn’t tasting good (I know, I know … crazy, right?! Wine is always delicious! Lol). Since we did not plan on our baby joining us this soon, we didn’t have everything ready, so Justin worked on stuff between contractions. Some of these things included stringing my beads that were sent or given to me for my online Bead Ceremony, turning up the water heater (which proved to be pointless because I didn’t even have time to set up the pool), and bringing part of our birth kit downstairs (the other part wasn’t here because our home visit in which our midwife drops it off was rescheduled due to weather). During contractions, he would lie next to me and hold my hand. It doesn’t seem like much, but just having him there, knowing how much this amazing, intelligent, strong man cares for me and our family … thinking about the love and support within our little family … it means the world to me, comforted me, and helped me to relax as I was about to bring our new baby into the world. (And now I’m being all sappy Mama like and tearing up.)
Love from my amazing husband
In case you did not know, Jessica is absolutely wonderful and I couldn’t imagine my homebirth experience without her! Anyway, we were chatting while was on her way home from her wedding. She was married the previous day, one state south of ours. Instead of spending the remainder of her weekend with her husband, she went straight home, grabbed her birth stuff, and came to my house. Jessica arrived about 12:30am.

I think my body knew that she was there and we were only waiting for one more person, our midwife, Donna. The contractions were getting closer together and more intense over the 3-ish hours before Jessica’s arrival, but they weren’t super strong yet. I was still able to breathe through them without verbal encouragement and quietly for the most part. Once Jessica was there and had brought her stuff in, the contractions seemed to intensify quickly.

Jessica massaging my low back/hips
While Justin continued to do what he was doing thus far, Jessica offered words of encouragement and some gentle pressure on my hips, which was very welcomed! I always love a good, deep massage, but not this time. Justin offered some deeper massage on my lumbar region in the muscle bellies and I thought about turning around and attacking him. I quickly realized, that for me, this was not a time for any kind of muscle work. Instead, he gently massaged some of my essential oil blends I had prepared in advance on my back. Although I can’t say that they decreased the intense feeling from the contractions, the scent was wonderful and made me happy.

I don’t quite remember the exact time, but I began to feel a slight urge to push. At this point, the midwife had still not arrived yet! Justin called her to see where she was. Since she had been delivering babies pretty much every night that week, she didn’t have her spare birth kit in her car and to run to the office to gather one. Her office is about 40 minutes from our house in daytime traffic. Later we found out that following Justin’s call, Donna was driving like a mad woman (about 90mph) down the main strip to get to our home.

After the phone call, Jessica and Justin helped me to the bathroom to change positions and let gravity do a little work. I was knelt next to the bath tub in our master bathroom. I don’t remember how many contractions I was like this for, but I think Jessica encouraged me to stay that way for 3-4 contractions. I remember thinking during these 3-4 contractions, which seemed like the longest more horrible contractions of my life, “what the hell was I thinking, doing this at home?!” After the last contraction in this position, as Justin and Jessica helped me back to the bed, I shared that thought with them. Jessica reassured me that it is a normal thought and I was okay for feeling this way. Then a new thought hit me, “I’m done! I can’t do it anymore!” Looking back, I know this typically means transition and I am almost done, but at the time those were not my thoughts.

Addison comforting Mommy
Shortly after this change in my mind (and body), Donna arrived! She laid next to me and asked how I was doing. All I said to her is “I’m done.” Her reply, “okay, you don’t have to do it anymore, you are done.” She then had me roll onto my back to check me and the baby. I remember thinking she was out of her dang mind wanting me to roll onto my back. That was the most uncomfortable position imaginable (and think, OB’s expect women to labor like this?! Psh … umm, no. NO!). She checked, and sure enough, it was time to push! And as if on cue, in walks Miss Addison. It is time for me to push and my 2 year old daughter walks into our bedroom. We had read her books and talked to her about birth a lot over the past couple of months, just in case. But I didn’t know how it would go if she happened to be awake during any of it. She crawled up into the bed next to me and asked if I was okay. I told her I was and that Connor was coming. She laid there, rubbing my arm, completely calm.

Wooden birthing stool

I think that her RN, Kelsey, may have worked faster than ever to get everything out and ready for delivery. From the time Donna checked me until the time they were set up and moved me to the bathroom lasted 1-2 contractions. Although I didn’t get to try the birth tub, as I had hoped to, I was greeted with a wooden birthing stool.

Justin bringing Addison into the bathroom
I got on the stool and was bracing myself on the edge of the bathtub. I don’t remember specifically feeling concerned, but Jessica must have seen a look of fear on my face when Justin walked in carrying Addison. She assured me Addison was okay and to focus on birthing our new baby. I pushed a few times, but I didn’t feel like I was being effective because I couldn’t fully focus on it. I was paying more attention to not falling because I felt like my hands were slipping off the edge of the tub. Justin sat on the edge of the tub behind me, and I was able to relax against him. Being supported and embraced by the love and strength of my husband, I was able to focus my thoughts and efforts on the task at hand. My pushing seemed much more effective now and it seemed like it went really fast at this point.

One of the last few pushes, my water broke, spraying all over Donna! 1-2 pushes later, I was cradling my baby’s head in my right hand, while holding Justin’s leg with my left. Next push, my baby boy was born!!! Monday, February 03, 2014 at 1:47am, Connor Gerard Mandeville was born in the warmth and comfort of our home, engulfed in the love of his big sister, Addison and his Daddy … and of course me, his happy and exhausted yet insanely energized Mommy! He entered this world weighing in at 8 pounds even and 20.5 inches long.

Before I tie it up, I have to brag for a moment about how well Addison did. Addison is understanding, comforting, helpful, loving, and more than sweet … more than I ever expected. She was braver and better educated about what to really expect than many adults witnessing a birth. I wouldn’t have traded her being there for any other person. Immediately after he came out, before he had even turned pink, she was running over asking, “Can I hold my baby Connor?!” Love that little girl to pieces and pieces!

Following the birth of my wee-man, I was loved, nurtured, cared for, and my house was cleaned … and I didn’t have to do it! WooHoo! The best part of the entire experience was being surrounded by those who love me and support my holistic choices. Okay, really the best part was snuggling my family in my own bed afterward, but that was a very close second. <3

I am so grateful for the wonderful women who made this experience so great: my doula, Jessica (Blue Tree Birth Services); my midwife, Donna (Monarch Midwifery), and her nurse, Kelsey. Above all, I can’t express in words how beyond thankful I am for the love, strength, and support of my husband, Justin. Finally, for the awesomeness of my daughter, Addison. Without these people, the birth of my handsome son may not have been the amazing experience it was. *getting sappy and teary eyed again*
